Why Do You Look for the Living Among the Dead?

Jesus has laid down the qualifications of those who with to follow him (Luke 9.23) and warned them about distractions to discipleship (9.57-62). As he sets out for Jerusalem and his impending death, he recruits several disciples to go out ahead of him and gives them instructions to prepare the people for his coming. On his last night with the disciples, Jesus tells them that he is going away and that they will be staying around to continue his work. This is not what they expected.
